What are the minimum requirements needed to apply for the position of Police Officer with the North Little Rock Police Department?

* U.S. citizen
* 21 years of age and no more than 45 years of age by the date of hire
* High school graduate or equivalent
* Possess a valid driver's license

What are the minimum requirements for hire?
Each applicant must pass:

  • written examination
  • physical ability test
  • structured panel interview
  • background investigation
  • polygraph examination

Upon the successful completion of the above requirements, you will receive a conditional letter of hire. You will then need to pass a medical physical along with vision and psychological exams. You will also be required to take a drug screening test. All of these are at the expense of the city of North Little Rock.

Can prior law enforcement experience be considered towards appointment as a North Little Rock Police Officer?

Are lateral transfers accepted for officers from other agencies?

The North Little Rock Police Department does not accept lateral transfers.

Are officers of the North Little Rock Police Department required to live in the city of North Little Rock?
The North Little Rock Police Department does not have a residency requirement. However, there are restrictions on officers that qualify for a home storage patrol car.

When can I move forward into a specialized position such as in the Detective Office, Narcotics, SWAT, etc.?

At the North Little Rock Police Department your career path begins with a minimum of one (1) year spent in the Patrol Division as a patrol officer. As specialized positions become available, officers may apply and be interviewed.

When is the next entry-level exam?
Testing will be scheduled each month and may be taken after the successful acceptance of your application.

Can I take the entry level exam if I am almost 21 years old?
You may test three (3) months prior to your twenty first birthday.

What are the age requirements to be hired as a Police Officer?
Applicants are required to be twenty one (21) years of age and no more than forty five (45) years of age at the date of hire.

Where is the entry level exam held?
The entry level exam is a computerized test given at the City of North Little Rock Human Resources Office.

How will I be notified that I should take the entry-level examination?
As soon as your online application is submitted, you will be notified whether your application was accepted or rejected. Upon acceptance of your application, you must contact the Human Resources office at 501-975-8855 to schedule a time to take your exam. You must take this exam within 60 days of submitting your application.

If I am not successful at passing the entry level exam or physical ability test the first time, may I retake the test?
Applicants that do not pass the written exam or physical ability test may re-take the test after a 6 month waiting period.
