I-30E On-ramp at Curtis Sykes Drive in North Little Rock

to be Permanently Closed

PULASKI COUNTY | June 14, 2022

The Interstate 30 eastbound on-ramp at Curtis Sykes Drive in North Little Rock will permanently close in late June as part of the interstate and ramp construction work at the I-30/I-40 interchange.

The current on-ramp at Curtis Sykes Drive does not meet current design standards and does not allow for the safe movement of ramp traffic to access I-40 westbound. This closure will allow crews to continue constructing a new I-30 eastbound to I-40 eastbound flyover ramp as well as a new on-ramp from the northbound frontage road to I-40 eastbound.

Traffic at Curtis Sykes Drive can access I-30 eastbound and the interchange with I-40 by taking the I-30 westbound ramp at Curtis Sykes Drive, using the Exit 141B ramp to Bishop Lindsey Avenue, and returning to I-30 eastbound. Depending on location, traffic can also use North Hills Boulevard and North Main Street to access I-40.

Additional information, including a specific closure date, will be available before the new traffic pattern begins. See map NR 22-133-A.

A long-term and permanent travel impact interactive map is available at 30Crossing.com, along with additional project information.

30 Crossing Project Requires Significant Closures to
Interstate 30 and the 6th Street Bridge in Little Rock

PULASKI COUNTY | March 25, 2022

Demolishing and reconstructing the 6th Street bridge over Interstate 30 in Little Rock will require significant traffic pattern changes and closures along the Interstate 30 corridor in early April.

The newly reconstructed 9th Street bridge over I-30 will open to traffic, followed by a long-term closure of the 6th Street bridge for reconstruction over the interstate. As part of the maintenance of traffic plan to demolish the 6th Street bridge, crews will temporarily close all lanes of traffic on I-30 for a weekend in April, with traffic utilizing the frontage roads between 6th Street and Interstate 630. Specific dates for these travel impacts will be announced closer to the work in April.

Detour routes will be signed for the 6th Street bridge closure, which is expected to remain closed into early 2023. In general, eastbound 6th Street traffic will head south and use the 9th Street bridge to reach the street grid east of I-30. Westbound traffic will primarily move north and use 3rd Street to access city streets west of I-30. See detour map NR 22-060-A for additional details.

For the weekend closure of I-30, eastbound interstate traffic will take the Downtown Little Rock ramp (Exit 140) to the frontage road and will use the on-ramp at 6th Street to return to I-30. Westbound traffic will take the 6th Street ramp (Exit 140B) to the frontage road and will use the on-ramp south of 9th Street to return to I-30. See detour map NR 22-060-B for additional details. During this weekend closure, the I-630 eastbound exit ramp to I-30 eastbound will also be closed and traffic will detour to the frontage road.

Long-Term Traffic Shift on I-30 Eastbound in Little Rock

PULASKI COUNTY (10-14) – Construction on Interstate 30 in Little Rock requires a major traffic shift for the next stage of improvements, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

Weather permitting, the I-30 eastbound lanes will shift left between 9th and 6th Streets. The eastbound inside lane will have concrete barriers on either side, separating it from westbound traffic and the eastbound middle lane. This change in traffic patterns will not impact any entrance or exit ramps along I-30.

This traffic split is expected to occur the beginning of November and be in place through summer 2022. This traffic pattern is similar to the traffic shifts used during current construction on the I-430 river bridge. See traffic shift map NR 21-342-A for an illustration.
