The North Little Rock Tree Board was created by Ordinance No. 6478, December 10, 1990. The original board was to provide a plan for the care, preservation and disposition of trees on public streets and in other public areas.
In the initial ordinance Street Trees were described as trees on land lying between property lines on either side of all streets, avenues, or ways within the city. Park Trees were trees in public parks having individual names.
The initial board had five members who were residents of the city and appointed by the mayor with the approval of the City Council.
Members received no compensation.
It was the duty of the board to study, investigate, council and develop and/or update a plan for the care, preservation, etc. of trees along our streets and other public areas.
Not a lot has changed. The current board was resurrected in 2017. The purpose of the current board is to review and make recommendations based on requests for information or proposals from city departments and others. The board provides recommendations upon request.
The board meets quarterly in the office of the City Clerk/Treasurer who is a a member and secretary to the board.
